Bottle confusion...

Hello,

The topic of bottles came up in my Due In Group (DIG) today - a topic fraught with emotions, thankfully it was kept positive and on topic.

The decision - whether forced due to circumstance or chosen - is one that is deeply personal to each mother and should not be criticised. I hope to be able to breast feed bubs, but if by some way I'm unable I have no qualms about using formula. As long as bubs is getting fed it's much of a muchness for me.

While the intention is to breast feed at this stage I've been looking at bottles to have to be able to express for those times where a bottle is easier and also to share the load somewhat with hubby and allow him to get more involved in feeding.

Before today I was pretty sold on the Closer to Nature range for bottles, steriliser etc. But now, I've been looking at two other options.

The first is called Mimijumi - a rather unique looking bottle which is designed to not only replicate the breast atheistically, but functionally as close as possible. I love the idea and the look of them. If the product will help ensure a seamless transition for bubs whether we're weaning or just using them for the occasional feed, then that's half the battle won in my eyes.

They come in two sizes "very hungry" and "not so hungry" and the nipples can be changed as bubs gets older. Price wise they are on the high side at about $30 each, but they do come with a 12 month warranty and I'm a firm believer of paying for quality.

The second product that caught my attention is the Kiinde twist starter pack which retails for about $80. Basically this is a complete feeding system and you can express into these bags which connect into a bottle - the premise is that there's no transferring breast milk from a pump to bottle, the kindle twist bags are freezable/heatable and form part of the bottle.

I like that it's all in one and there's no messing around. However, the downside is, if I do have trouble breast feeding it would not be possible to mix formula in these so it would be a pointless purchase.

So many decisions and so many products out there once you start doing research. Now I'm wondering which system will suit us best, whether we're better to go for a more generic brand or go with something that is modern and cutting edge? How many bottles will I need? And then of course, which pump system should I buy? Have you tried either of these products, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

S xx

  1. Hi Stacey,
    Thanks for the Blog Post.
Just letting you know that we have the Twist Funnel available that easily clips onto the Twist Pouches. This was developed for mums who are using the Twist System and want to make the transition to formula. The Funnel allows them to continue using their Twist Pouches and Active-Latch Nipples even for Formula.
    Thanks
    Kate from Kiinde :-)

    1. Hi Kate,

Thanks for your comment - you have just made my decision all the more difficult! Thankfully I have a few months left to get my mind made up before taking the bottle plunge.
